Meet our Utes beat writer Jason Batacao at a free event downtown.

The Utes call it the Red Line.

And once you cross it, there’s no slowing down.

I kind of took a nice deep breath and took it all in,” Utah quarterback Cam Rising said of crossing the Red Line for the first time at the start of fall camp. “It just feels good to be back out there and know that I know that I’m playing this time.”

I have crossed a Red Line of my own at The Salt Lake Tribune, and I’m excited to give you the best coverage of the Utes from now through the end of the season.

To start things off, I’d like to invite you to join me for a season kickoff event on Aug. 15.

The event at Gracie’s in downtown Salt Lake City starts at 5 p.m. and is free to attend.

My coworkers and I will be there to chat about the season, hear your comments, answer any questions and address any concerns from the University of Utah community.

Given that I’ve only been here for roughly 60 days and counting, I want to hear what you have liked about my coverage and what you haven’t liked so far.

You have to be 21 years or older because there will be alcoholic beverages served. Food will be provided and he first 50 people on the RSVP list get a free drink ticket.

I hope to see you all there.
